alert2* HardFest NYC presents Crookers w / Major Lazer @ Terminal 5

* Flashing Lights (One Year Anniversary) @ MeanRed

<Updat3:  In lieu of getting my dance fix by going to check out Major Lazer at the HARDFEST party, I deferred to this FL shindig after checking out their guest DJ’s BBC mix (Toddla T) online.  The song selection and mixes were on point (download it)….too bad I didn’t stay to hear his set.

The highlight of the evening was the fact that this party was at a Chinatown strip mall.  Seriously.  There were glass window storefronts, chrome plated banisters all over the place, Christmas lights and carpet that made the whole place look like a cheap hotel lobby.  But it was awesome!  I am looking forward to checking out this spot again.  It had mad personality and if the music was as good as I imagined…there is no doubt I would’ve been rolling outta there at 4am looking to unload a bagpack of rubber dogsh*t from Hong Kong.  -AV>

I can’t give it a full rating so….quicky: 3.2/5

* Hope Sandoval & The Warm Inventions @ Music Hall of Williamsburg

* Drummer (Black Keys, Houseguest & The Party of Helicopters) @ The Mercury Lounge

10/11 – sunday, october 11th

* White Rabbits @ Maxwell’s (Hoboken, NJ…gulp!)

***Review under construction*** -AV

The White Rabbits’ album ‘Its Frightening’ was my summer rock album of ’09.  The second album from this Brooklyn based (via Missouri) sextet was produced by Britt Daniel (singer/guitarist for Spoon) and added more flame to my romance with rock this year.

The whole album is dope.  Melodies, song structures, harmonies, lyrics….it is a complete album.  So go get a copy.  If you honestly don’t like it…send me the bill and I’ll pay for it.

Back to the show…

Multi instrumentalists

nice voices

2 singers – 1 guitar and 1 on piano (corona)

2 percussionist

they were their own roadies…setup own gear

great songwriting

all the instruments to make great music

collborative effort

small venue/tight stage

band had to walk thru the crowd to hit stage

encore (fave track salesman)

crowd was unbelievably thin

not your NY crowd

got to see a good band from ground up

see big things

studio does do magic on harmonies and voice

energy could have been higher

not much talking b/w songs

felt like they were racing thru set

songs run range…from upbeat to slower tunes

wish they would have been happier to be there

go intro to cmjs next week

* Happy Feet w/ Rich Medina & Bobbito @ (Le) Poisson Rouge

* Blitzen Trapper @ The Bowery Ballroom
